Pressure-Treated Wood Decks | Wood Decks
Few homeowners really understand what pressure-treated wood is and why you should use it. Using pressure-treated wood for projects like custom outdoor wooden decks (and pool decks) can keep your outdoor structures strong, colorful and beautiful for years by resisting termites, rot and decay.
Certain woods can be injected with preservative chemicals to stave off rot and insects in exterior applications like decks. Pressure-treated lumber is ideal for deck construction because it has a long, useful life span and is much less expensive than alternatives.
Treated wood can last more than 40 years. The treatment process involves placing a load of lumber in a huge cylindrical chamber called a retort with a door on one end that can be sealed airtight, and then forcing waterborne chemicals into the wood under pressure.
If economy and longevity is what you’re looking for, then pressure-treated wood may be what you’re looking for. It’s stainable and hard enough to resist abuse. Standard treated decking costs less than cedar and a lot less than composite materials.
